Weirton City Council approves workers compensation provider
WEIRTON — Weirton Council approved a contract for the city’s workers compensation insurance coverage for the next year as part of a series of special meetings held Wednesday morning.
The city’s Finance Committee met at 10:30 a.m., convening into an executive session for 17 minutes to discuss the insurance proposals received.
“This is a contractual thing,” City Manager Mike Adams.
The committee recommended a contract for a policy through Assured Partners, at a cost of $137,694. The recommendation was then taken up when the full city council met for its special meeting at 11 a.m.
Council convened for a 19-minute executive session to discuss the committee’s recommendation and the policy proposals.
When returning to open session, council voted 6-0 in favor of the contract with Assured Partners.
Representatives of Assured Partners attended the meetings by phone, while a representative from Assure America, which also bid on the contract, was in attendance. Neither were called upon for comment during the meeting.
