Greater Weirton Senior Center
is promoting dinner cruise
WEIRTON -- The Greater Weirton Senior Center is promoting participation in a Gateway Clipper dinner cruise June 8 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
"It's called 'Chicken and Ribs Lock and Dam dinner cruise' on the Gateway Clipper," explained Tammy Margetic, center director.
The cost is $99 and includes the cruise, barbecued chicken and ribs and all the fixings, all-you-can-drink soda and a souvenir glass, dancing and games with a DJ. Transportation will be a school bus leaving from the center lot at 5 p.m. sharp. Attendees should meet at 4:45 p.m.
"We will be back around 10:30 p.m.," Margetic noted.
The money is due by May 3. There are only 40 seats available so paying in advance will hold a spot. Questions can be directed to Margetic at (304) 748-3490.
Pilgrim No. 691 Masonic Lodge plans open house on Saturday
STEUBENVILLE -- On Saturday, Pilgrim No. 691 Masonic Lodge will open its doors for a public open house on Saturday.
The lodge is located at 227 N. Fourth St., Steubenville and ville, and will welcome visitors that day from from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Anyone who would like to know more about Freemasonry or is just curious and would like a peek inside may attend. Members and their families also are invited to come and share the day.
Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest men's fraternity in the world. Thirteen signers of the Constitution and 14 presidents of the United States, including George Washington, were Freemasons.
Today, there are more than 2 million Freemasons in North America alone, 90,000 of whom are Ohio Freemasons.
"The origins of Freemasonry are rooted in the guilds of stonemasons, who built the castles and cathedrals during the middle ages. The tools and objects used by stonemasons have been adapted as symbols in the ceremonies of modern Freemasonry to teach moral lessons; known worldwide as a symbol of character, charity and friendship, the Square and Compasses design is the emblem of every Masonic lodge," a news release notes.
"Today, Freemasonry is a fraternity that brings together good men from various political, social, ethnic and religious backgrounds to work to improve themselves and their communities in the spirit of brotherly love, relief and truth."

Olde St. John's Episcopal to
hold Ramp Fest on Saturday
COLLIERS -- Olde St. John's Episcopal Church's Ramp Fest will return Saturday.
It will run from noon to 4 p.m. or until the food runs out. The menu will include ramp sausage sandwiches; hot dogs with or without ramps; and a ramp dinner with potatoes, ramps and bacon, soup beans and corn bread. Desserts also will be sold. The food can be eaten in or taken out.
The church is near the intersection of Eldersville and St. John's roads.
A ramp is a wild onion that has been common in Appalachian cooking for many years but has become popular among "foodies" in more recent years.
Darcy Riggs Suslovic, a local chef who coordinates the event, said while raw ramps are known for their pungent odor and strong taste, they are milder when cooked and can be used in place of garlic.
She and several family members usually pick them in mid-April.
The church fundraiser is among many ramp-centered events held in West Virginia communities as well as Virginia and North Carolina.
Retro Night dinner concert April 28 at Sycamore Center
STEUBENVILLE -- The Ohio Valley Youth Network/Sycamore Youth Center will be hosting a "Retro Night" dinner concert on April 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville.
Tickets can be purchased online at eventbrite.com or call (740) 409-2986. Seating is limited, and full tables of eight are available for $160 with individual seats for $20. The dinner buffet will include chicken breast, salad, potato and dessert.
The lineup includes a number of Valley's Got Talent winners, including Olivia Huval and the Brookes Sisters. The artists will sing songs from artists of the past (before the year 2000) and dress up like the artists and perform their song.

The lineup of artists includes Olivia Huval, Leila Cable, Cooper Crowe, Maylee Rawson, Ramon Ramos, Skylar Hendrix, Blest (Brookes Sisters), Bella Thompson, Nikolas Kline, Anthony Pearce, Christiana Westlake, Autumn Duckworth, the Journey Back, Nina Holt, Jessa Skeen and Bailey McKnight.
Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary making plans
WEIRTON -- President Shirley Brecht presided when the Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary met April 10.
Chaplain Mary Ann Smith gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Marcy Spano reported on cards sent. Vice President Darlene Kemp gave the roll call and Spano, the secretary's report. It was approved as was the treasurer's report. Auxiliary dues are due.
The auxiliary got a wreath made for Memorial Day and Veterans Day made by Gina Notni. Spano and Brecht delivered the Easter baskets to the Weirton Geriatric Center.
There will be a bakeless bake sale in June. A social hour in June is planned with the auxiliary bringing cookies and ice cream.
The women will get their adopted veteran a gift card for Memorial Day.
Brecht won the 50-50 drawing.
The auxiliary agreed to donate $1 each month.
Members will bring food in ice cream and cookies in July; roast beef sandwiches and desserts in September; and soups and sandwiches in November and December. The next meeting will be held May 10, beginning at 6 p.m. at the VFW hall in Weirton.
