Form Energy to hold community open house

WEIRTON -- A company planning to locate its first manufacturing facility in Weirton, along with the creation of 750 jobs, is inviting area residents to hear more about their plans.
Form Energy has organized two open house meetings to allow members of the community to meet representatives of the company's leadership team and learn about its goals for operations in Weirton, including the construction timeline and types of jobs which will be available.
The open houses will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., April 27, and 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., April 28 in the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center.
While advanced registration is not required, officials do request those interested in attending either session to email RSVP@FormEnergy.com to assist with event planning.
In December, Form Energy joined state and local officials in announcing its plans to construct its first high-volume manufacturing facility on a 55-acre piece of property located within the Frontier Crossing development. The site is located in the area once home to the open hearth of the former Weirton Steel Corp.
Form Energy, based in Massachusetts, has developed a new type of iron-air battery capable of storing electricity for 100 hours.
The company's current plans call for construction to begin this year, with manufacturing getting under way sometime in 2024.
The project is anticipated to involve a $760 million investment, with Form Energy putting in $350 million up front. The state provided an initial investment of $75 million during the December announcement, with $105 million provided with the passage of House Bill 2882 during this year's regular legislative session.
The final $110 million will be provided by the state once the project is complete.
Weirton was selected from a group of 500 sites located in 16 states, according to company officials.
