PRACTICING — The Adena Lions Club hopes to “pack the house” with an audience appreciative of its 71st show, “Good Evening, Vietnam — Honoring Those Who Served,” which will be presented on Friday and Saturday at Buckeye West Elementary in Adena, beginning at 7:30 p.m. both days. It will be a special tribute show to all the men and women who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of location. ADENA -- The Adena Lions Club has been producing and performing annual shows since 1951.

And while there have been many memorable moments, songs and comedies through the past seven decades, organizers say that arguably no show has been more memorable than the one scheduled for this weekend.

The club's 71st show -- its key fundraiser -- is "Good Evening Vietnam -- Honoring Those Who Served," which will be presented on Friday and Saturday at Buckeye West Elementary in Adena, beginning at 7:30 p.m. both days.

It will be a special tribute show to all the men and women who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of Nov. 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, regardless of location.

The Adena Lions Club members want to show their appreciation to the Vietnam War-period veterans and say "Welcome Home," which in many cases is long overdue, a club spokesperson noted.

"Our planning team has constructed this show with great care and has been in communication with the Adena American Legion Post 525," explained Director Dustin Kinsey.

"This is not a show about politics -- it is a show about honoring those who served," Kinsey said. "We want to pack the auditorium in support of the Vietnam War-period veterans."

Popular songs from the 1960s and early 1970s will be sung, and there will be jokes and comedy skits in the spirit of the Bob Hope USO shows. USO is an acronym for United Service Organizations.

Toward the end of the night, a picture presentation of those who served will be featured. Following that, tribute will be paid to the men and women who served during the Vietnam War-period but never made it home, according to Kinsey.

Then, all Vietnam War-period veterans will be invited to come forward as "Soldiers of Vietnam -Welcome Home" is sung. The show will conclude with "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and all veterans will be admitted for free.

"This is truly a show that you will not want to miss," Kinsey said.
