NEW CUMBERLAND -- Saturday is the final day for early voting ahead of New Cumberland's municipal election.
City residents wishing to take part in early voting may go to the New Cumberland City Building today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to cast their votes.
The municipal election will be held Tuesday, with voting at the New Cumberland Fire Hall from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Five of the city's six council seats appear on this year's ballot.
Michael Watkins is seeking election to a four-year term representing Ward 1 Seat A. He was appointed to council in November 2021 following the death of long-time councilmember Brian Webster.
Incumbent Melissa Perkins is running for re-election to a four-year term for Ward 1 Seat B. Perkins was first elected to the post in 2015.
Penny Spilecki has filed for election to Ward 1 Seat C, which will have a two-year term. She was appointed to fill the seat in February after the death of Richard Blackwell in November.
David "Boe" Cline, who was appointed to council last summer, has filed for election to Ward 2 Seat A with a two-year term. Cline was appointed to the seat last summer, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of Don Blankenship, who had moved outside of the city.
Nick Nolder has applied for a four-year term in Ward 2 Seat C. Nolder had filed unopposed to seek the seat as part of this year's election, and was appointed Monday to complete the current term following the death of Judy Bartley.
Voters also have the option of casting a write-in vote, by writing the name of the individual and the office on the front of their ballots.
In order to vote in the New Cumberland election, qualified residents must have been registered by April 18.
