Annual controlled bow hunt dates set in Weirton, meetings coming up

WEIRTON -- Weirton's controlled bow hunt has been scheduled for Sept. 9 through Dec. 31, with an extended season to be held from Jan. 8 to Jan. 31.

To participate, individuals must have been a resident of either Hancock or Brooke counties for at least the past six months.

Mandatory pre-hunt meetings have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 8, 6 p.m. Aug. 8, and 10 a.m. Aug. 19, in the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center. Attendance is required at one of these meetings in order to take part in the bow hunt.

Also required is the payment of a $20 registration fee, except for those under the age of 18 at the time of registration. Hunters must bring the following to their attended meetings: a valid yellow NBEF Card, even if you have hunted in previous years, and a photo identification, such as a driver's license. Revised regulations governing the hunt, as well as hunting permits, maps of the designated hunting areas and other documents will be issued at the pre-hunt meetings.

Meetings will begin at their scheduled times, with the doors being closed and no one admitted afterwards.

In addition, a National Bow Hunter Ed Foundation class will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Aug. 12 at Marland Heights Park. There is a fee of $25. Pre-registration for the class is required by calling Alexander Archery at (304) 748-8029. Space is limited, and no one will be permitted to take the class without pre-registering.
