NEW CUMBERLAND -- A long-time educator will be taking on a new role following a vote Monday by the Hancock County Board of Education.

Julie Zoellers was unanimously approved by the board as the new dean of students and athletic director at Oak Glen High School.

"Julie is a fine teacher up at Oak Glen," Superintendent Dan Enich said. "She'll do a great job up there."

Among her previous roles, Zoellers has served as a math and technology teacher, as well as assistant coach for the high school's volleyball team.

She fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Richard Shilling, who had been the school's athletic director.

Members of the board wished Zoellers well in her new position, but pointed out there now is another vacancy to fill.

"Now we have to find an outstanding math teacher to take her place," school board Vice President Ed Fields said.

The move wasn't the only personnel decision made by the board Monday.

Other decisions included approving the resignations of Lucas Flaus from the post of head golf coach at Weir High and Matthew DeAngelis as assistant football coach at Weir High; the assignment of Clayton Flowers as head archery coach at Oak Glen High, and Marc DeAngelo as an unpaid/volunteer assistant football coach at Weir Middle; the assignment of Emilee Payne as a supervisory aide II-IV/ECCAT at Weirton Elementary; and Sandra Lusk as a countywide substitute aide.

A slate of 62 substitutes also was approved for the 2023-24 school year.
