WEIRTON -- Organizers of this year's Christmas on Main Street are hoping area residents will snap up their chance to take part in the second-annual Gingerbread House Contest.

The Weirton Festival Committee is organizing the festivities on Nov. 18, which will include a variety of free activities, vendors and more.

Those interested in entering the Gingerbread House Contest may do so by emailing weirtonfestivalcommittee@gmail.com, or by filling out the entry form available through the Christmas on Main Street or City of Weirton Facebook pages.

Entries are due by Nov. 10, with winners announced during the Christmas on Main Street event.

There are four categories for the contest: Business, Group Effort, Adult (18 and up) and Youth (10 to 17). Entries will be judged on overall appearance, the "holiday spirit" incorporated into the design, originality/imagination, difficulty of design/design execution, and use of materials.

"We would like to see some teachers, and classes and organizations get involved," explained Brandy Brock, festival committee member.

The winners of each category are set to receive a variety of gift cards and other prizes made possible by the contest's sponsors.

"There's a huge prize package," Brock said.

In addition to the four categories, one entry will receive an award for the "most original" creation with its own prize package.

The contest's sponsors include Gurrera Law Offices PLLC; Gus's Goodies; Fiesta Tableware Co.; Theo Yianni's; Coffee Bean; Pizza Hut; Sheetz; Fairfield by Marriott; Walmart Store 1948; Papa John's; Sweet Temptations Pastry Shop; and Primanti Bros.

Christmas on Main Street will take place from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in front of the Millsop Community Center, featuring ice skating, inflatables, mini-golf and train rides, as well as a variety of vendors, live entertainment and more.

It will be capped off by a tree lighting and fireworks.
