Gingerbread Contest winners announced

By CRAIG HOWELL 2 min read

WEIRTON -- Officials with the Weirton Festival Committee feel they have built a new holiday tradition after announcing the winners of the second-annual Gingerbread House Contest.

"We had over 20 entries," explained Assistant City Manager DeeAnn Pulliam.

This year's contest had four competitive categories - Business, Adult, Group Effort, and Yout - with judges also selecting a Most Original winner from all of the entries.

Entries were judged on overall appearance, the "holiday spirit" incorporated into the design, originality/imagination, difficulty of design/design execution, and use of materials, with winners announced during last weekend's Christmas on Main Street festivities.

Winning entries included:

Business Category - Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau

Adult Category - Ashton Beckert

Group Effort - The "Gingerbread Gals" Kimberly LaPosta and Kaylee LaPosta

Youth - Bailey Bohasky

Most Original - Theresa Harbert

Residents wishing to see the winners and other entries may do so by visiting the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center through Dec. 6.

"They'll be on display until then," Pulliam said.

Sponsors for this year's Gingerbread House Contest were Sheetz, The Coffee Bean, Gus's Goodies, Toybox Innovations, Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar, Theo Yianni's, Papa Johns, Walmart Store 1948, Gurrera Law Offices, Fairfield by Marriott, Pizza Hut, Sweet Temptations Pastry Shop, and Fiesta Tableware Co.
