STEUBENVILLE -- The heavy rain that is forecast to hit the Tri-State Area Tuesday has forced the postponement of the Steubenville Lights Up the Night Event at Historic Fort Steuben.
The annual tree lighting and fireworks show has been rescheduled for 6:25 p.m. Friday.
They will come at the end of an afternoon of activities that will begin around 3 p.m., organizers said. That will include holiday vendors and a performance by the Brenda Casey Dancers in the Berkman Amphitheater leading up to the blessing of the tree around 6:15 p.m., followed by the lighting of the tree and fireworks.
Organizers of the Steubenville Nutcracker Village have said that all of their Tuesday events will go on as scheduled between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. along North Fourth Street in the area outside of Drosselmeyer’s Nutcracker Shoppe, 155 N. Fourth St.
Those will include Advent Market vendors, the German Gluhwein Garden, free crafts and games at the Children’s Corner and the Mansa Stables petting zoo. Traditional German dancers from the Ohio Valley Folk Society will perform at 5:15 p.m. and 5:50 p.m., and the Ron Retzer Trio will appear in concert at 6:30 p.m.
Five new nutcrackers will be unveiled during the evening, officials said, adding that North Fourth Street will be closed to traffic to accommodate the events.
The nutcrackers will be on display through Jan. 6.
