Bulletin Board Auction is live at Millsop Community Center

WEIRTON -- A sure sign of the holiday season in Weirton is the annual Bulletin Board Auction held at the Millsop Community Center.
The long-time fundraiser organized by the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation is under way, with a series of bulletin boards set up in the lower hallway of the community center displaying cards with items up for grabs.
"We have over 100 items," explained Programs Director Chris Krishak, saying he is still collecting donations and hopes to have close to 120 available for bids before the auction concludes.
Those interested in placing a bid are asked to visit the main desk of the community center to obtain and fill out a bid slip, including the item desired and their bid.
This "silent" portion of the bulletin board auction will run until 6 p.m., Dec. 13. All high bids will be posted each weekday morning.
"Stop down any time between now and next Wednesday," Krishak said. "Check out the boards and bid."
Following this bidding period, the "live" portion of the auction will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Dec. 13 in the center's gymnasium. During the live auction, an auction representative will be on hand to hand out and collect bid slips, posting all high bids as they are submitted.
Parks Executive Director Coty Shingle noted the auction has been the Park Board's biggest fundraiser in more than 20 years, and expressed appreciation to those who donate items for the auction, as well as those who place bids.
"I love the way the community and business community support this," Shingle said. "It's the only way it works."
This year's auction includes a variety of gift cards from local restaurants and other businesses, offers for oil changes, a bowling ball, a Keurig gift basket, and overnight stays at local hotels among other donations.
Successful bidders will be contacted by phone by Dec. 15 and asked to pay for and collect their items. All items must be picked up by 5 p.m., Dec. 20.
