WEIRTON -- There will be competition in several local races as part of this year's primary and general elections.
The filing period for May's primary election in West Virginia ended Saturday, although candidates may still appear on the ballot as long as they mailed their completed and notarized candidate forms with a postmark prior to midnight of the final day.
The primary election in West Virginia will be held May 14.
Those currently slated to appear on ballots for local offices include:
State Senate District 1: Republican Scott Adams of Wellsburg, and Republican incumbent Ryan W. Weld of Wellsburg. District 1 includes Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties, and a portion of Marshall County.
House of Delegates District 1: Republican incumbent Pat McGeehan of Chester. The House District 1 includes most of Hancock County, an eastern portion of Weirton, and most of the Colliers area;
House of Delegates District 2: Democrat Olivia Dowler of Weirton, Republican Michele Slates of Weirton, and Republican incumbent Mark Zatezalo of Weirton. The House District 2 includes the remainder of Weirton, traveling through the area north of Follansbee and into Hooverson Heights and including eastern portions of Brooke County to Washington Pike.
House of Delegates District 3: Democrat David Cantrell of Wheeling and Republican incumbent Jimmy Willis of Bethany. The House District 3 includes Follansbee, Wellsburg and the remainder of Brooke County, as well as a portion of northern Ohio County.
First Judicial Circuit Court Judge: Joseph Barki, Division 1; Ron Wilson, Division 1; David J. Sims, Division 2; Jason A. Cuomo, Division 3; Michael J. Olejasz, Division 4;
Family Court Judge: Joyce Dumbaugh Chernenko, Division 1; Heather A. Wood, Division 2;
Brooke County Commission: Democrat Darin Pizer of Wellsburg, and Republican incumbent A.J. Thomas of Follansbee;
Brooke County Prosecuting Attorney: Democrat Robert Catlett of Wellsburg; and Republican Allison Cowden of Weirton;
Brooke County Sheriff: Republican incumbent Richard Beatty of Follansbee; and Democrat Richard Ferguson of Wellsburg;
Brooke County Assessor: Republican incumbent Thomas Oughton of Wellsburg;
Brooke County Magistrate: Shannon Price, Division 1; and Daniell Diserio, Division 2;
Brooke County Board of Education: incumbent Edward Marks of Wellsburg, incumbent Antoinette Perkins of Follansbee, and William Michael Traubert of Wellsburg;
Brooke Conservation District Supervisor: Republican Eric Freeland of Wellsburg;
Hancock County Commission: Republican Tony LaScola of Chester, and Republican Tommy Ogden of Chester;
Hancock County Prosecuting Attorney: Republican incumbent Steven E. Dragisich, of Weirton;
Hancock County Sheriff: Republican incumbent J. Scott Gittings of Chester; and Democrat Dezso Polgar of Weirton;
Hancock County Assessor: Democrat Joseph M. Alongi of Weirton;
