WEIRTON --- Those wishing to run for the opportunity to be the next mayor of Weirton, or a member of city council, have until Saturday to register for this year's municipal election.
The city will hold its general election, to select the mayor and all seven council representatives, on Nov. 5. There will be no primary election.
The filing period for Weirton's election will be held until noon, Saturday.
As of 1:30 p.m., Monday, there was at least one candidate for each office, except for the position of Ward 5 council representative. Weirton's Ward 5 includes the Marland Heights neighborhoods in the city.
Those filed for the election include:
Mayor: incumbent Harold E. "Bubba" Miller, current Ward 5 Councilwoman Flora Perrone, and former mayor Dean M. Harris;
Ward 1: incumbent Timothy C. Connell;
Ward 2: Ralph Cunningham;
Ward 3 former councilmember Ronnie Jones, Jesse Keeder, and Doug Velegol;
Ward 4: Rick Stead;
Ward 6: incumbent Enzo Fracasso, Bob Wyatt, and Anthony Rocchio;
Ward 7: Christopher Jonczak, who currently holds the Ward 2 council seat
Those wishing to seek municipal elected office may do so by filing the appropriate forms at the Office of the City Clerk, located within the Weirton Municipal Building, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
The filing fee for the office of mayor is $100, with the fee for council set at $50.
Forms are available on the city's website -- www.cityofweirton.com -- or in the City Clerk's Office. All forms must be filed no later than noon on Saturday, or postmarked no later than Saturday if being sent by mail.
