A group of area residents gathered at First United Methodist Church Wednesday evening for a service and balloon launch in observance of Black Balloon Day, a day to raise awareness of overdose deaths and remember those who have been lost. Black Balloon Day was first organized by the family of Greg Tremblay, a 38-year-old from Massachusetts, who died March 6, 2015, following a drug overdose. In the years since, services have spread across the United States and to other countries.
