WEIRTON -- The deadline is fast approaching for nominations of the 2024 class of the Weirton Hall of Fame.
Members of the Hall of Fame Committee met Friday to continue preparations for this year's induction ceremony, and to remind area residents of the need for nominees.
"So far, we have five nominations," explained Committee Chair Linda Krynicki.
To qualify for nomination, an individual must be either a current or former resident of Weirton who has lived in the city for at least five years since its incorporation in 1947. Forms are available in Room 207 of the Weirton Municipal Building as well as on the City of Weirton's website, with a deadline of May 27.
Nominations can be made in six categories: Philanthropy; Public Service; Music and Fine Arts; Business, Industry and Professions; Education and Religion; and Sports and Athletics.
"We can accept two people in each category," noted Assistant City Manager DeeAnn Pulliam.
Each nomination must state the reason for the nomination in the form of a biography and list major accomplishments of the nominee. All nominations also must be signed and dated by the individual making the nomination.
Nominations will only be accepted from current city residents.
The Weirton Hall of Fame was launched in 2008 as a way to honor those who have dedicated themselves to the service of others in the city.
Plaques listing the names of previous induction classes are on display at the Millsop Community Center. Details about this year's induction class and event will be made available at a later time.
