CHESTER -- Volunteers are needed for the annual Chester Community Make It Shine Cleanup Day.

Dustin Lang, president of the Chester Beautification Committee, said the committee is looking for approximately 30 to 35 volunteers who are willing to pitch in and help with this year's Make It Shine project.

The Chester Make It Shine is held annually in conjunction with the West Virginia Statewide Make It Shine program.

The committee has been taking part in the statewide Make It Shine initiative for about nine years, focusing on a different project area each year, such as the Upper End Playground, the Mini Chester City Park, installation of flower beds around the flagpole at the Chester Teapot, along with litter cleanups.

This year the focus is on the 3rd Street Playground where volunteers will be painting the playground equipment. Mulching around the playground equipment and general cleanup.

All the supplies needed will be provided for the volunteers.

The cleanup is May 11 and volunteers are asked to gather at the playground at 9 a.m.

If a decent number of volunteers participate, there will be some extra projects available such as litter cleanup and cleanup of the flower bed on Main Street.
