Weirton gets ready for paving season

WEIRTON — The City of Weirton is set to pave parts or all of more than 30 streets this year.

As part of its meeting Monday, Weirton Council unanimously approved a contract with Kelly Paving Inc., in the amount of $1,214,424.84, for the milling and paving of designated streets in the city.

There also will be $213,405.16 spent in in-house asphalt use, and the installation of a high-friction surface treatment on Marland Heights Road, which also was approved Monday, at a cost of $72,170.

No comments were made during Monday’s meeting, but the resolution notes “the streets listed on the bid documents have been determined to be in poor condition and need to be milled and paved to provide a safe driving surface.”

The bid documents from Kelly Paving notate which streets have been designated for milling and paving this year, and includes:

Ward 1: The upper side of Avenue E, the upper side of Avenue G, Figueroa from North 10th Street to Titus Extension, the end of North 10th Street, Titus Extension, Oak Street Alley from Oak to Mercer, Franklen Alley from 10th Street to the dead end, and Avenue H from County Road to Main Street;

Ward 2: National, Pleasantview Drive from Culler to National, Pleasantview Drive from National to Highland, and Highland Avenue;

Ward 3: Hindman from Patterson to the seam, Patterson from Fernwood to Fernwood, the Patterson intersection, Sunrise from Heather Court to Colliers Way, the Hindman intersection;

Ward 4: Ingram, Lewis from Heaslet to Homewood, Brooke Street from Homewood to Market, the 3900 block of Adams, 3100 block of Orchard, Lee Avenue from Orchard to Elm, Wells on the alley by the school to Market;

Ward 5: Buchanan, Legion and Marland Heights Road;

Ward 6: Elizabeth from Oregon to Mayfair, Arena Drive from Oregon to Mayfair, School Street from Beech to South 11th, Hillcrest from Beech to South 11th, and Wetzel from 14th Street to 17th Street;

Ward 7: Marie from Laurel to Paige Court using concrete, Alf, Paige Court and the Paige Court cul-de-sac, West Circle Drive from Scenery to Joseph, Joseph Boulevard from West Circle to East Circle, and the Joseph Boulevard intersection.
