CHESTER -- The "World's Largest Teapot" is ready for a closeup when it appears nationwide on a morning show in the very near future.

Chris DeRose and Ken Murray from KDKA-TV, which is the Pittsburgh CBS affiliate, were in town last week for a spotlight on the Chester Teapot with Chester Mayor Ed Wedgewood, Councilman Mike Dotson and Park Board member and Secretary Susan Hineman.

The news team interviewed the trio and took footage for an expanded piece on the city of Chester and the Teapot that will air on CBS Sunday Morning, which is hosted by Jane Pauley.

DeRose had a story appear on cbsnews.com on April 19, which was National Tea Day. Wedgewood said the men promised to let them know of the future air date, which he expected to be before August.

Along for the ride was Brian Butko, who had been interviewed for the April online piece. He discussed the tourist attraction's transformation from a beer barrel in Imperial, Pa. to the Teapot one sees today near the Route 30 bypass.

Butko is affiliated with the Pittsburgh-based Heinz History Center and is a historian for the Lincoln Highway that travels through Chester.

A mathematician had predicted in the earlier piece that if the Teapot was actually filled with tea, it could hold more than 13,000 gallons of the beverage.

Wedgewood said the segment, which includes interviews with him, Hineman and Dotson, is expected to be two-and-a-half minutes long. He Is unsure if it will be part of a larger series.

The trio talked with reporter DeRose for the piece about the Teapot's legacy and the landmark's importance to this pottery-rich area ahead of this year's Teapot Day, which is Aug. 10.

Videographer Murray has New Cumberland ties.
