WELLSBURG -- A Brooke County sheriff's deputy has been charged with crimes involving sexual conduct and a minor following an investigation by the Hancock County detachment of the West Virginia State Police.
Jason Michael McCune, who was hired by the sheriff's department several months ago, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of soliciting a minor and traveling to engage the minor in a prohibited sex act and sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian.
Brooke County Sheriff Rich Beatty said Thursday he couldn't comment on the matter except to say, "He's no longer employed by the sheriff's department."
McCune's case is pending in Brooke County Magistrate Court but is likely to be bound over to 1st Judicial Circuit Court because the charges are felonies.
