Preventing polio

During their Oct. 15 meeting, members of the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights welcomed Dr. Kenneth Woods, an infectious disease specialist, who discussed the history and current statistics of polio. Woods explained Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries where the disease is still classified as an epidemic, noting the various treatments and vaccines available for the infectious disease. World Polio Day will be observed Thursday, with Rotary clubs around the world hosting events as a reminder of the importance of the development of the polio vaccine. Pictured, from left, are Dr. J.K.
