Follansbee Walgreens to close

FOLLANSBEE — The Follansbee Walgreens is among about 1,200 locations to be closed by the national pharmaceutical chain.

Jennifer Cotto, a spokesperson for the company, confirmed the Follansbee location at 1600 Main St. “is set to permanently close on June 11.”

Cotto said, “We will continue to execute our previously announced turnaround plan aimed at stabilizing the retail pharmacy, including our footprint optimization program. Increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures are weighing on our ability to cover the costs associated with rent, staffing, and supply needs.”

“It is never an easy decision to close a store, and we know how important they are to the communities we serve and therefore do everything possible to improve their performance. When closures are necessary, we will work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions,” she said.

Cotto said those who get their prescriptions filled at the Follansbee location will automatically have them transferred to the Wellsburg location at 126 12th St.

She added they “also will be eligible for free delivery for 90 days to help in the transition and can choose another Walgreens to move their prescriptions to. We encourage patients to speak to their pharmacist to learn how to set up that service.”
