Street fair to include contests
WINTERSVILLE — Wednesdays in Wintersville’s last street fair for the season will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and area residents are invited to take part in its events.
In keeping with this month’s disco theme, girls and boys under 18 are invited to compete for disco queen and king in a pageant, and various types of cheesecake can be entered into the baking contest.
Everyone also is invited to dust off any old or unusual pairs of shoes, from any era, for the display at the Center of Hope.

County Road 43 resurfacing to begin
STEUBENVILLE — Crews will begin the county Road 43 roadway resurfacing improvement project at 7 a.m. Tuesday, the city’s engineering department has announced.
Work will continue each day through the week, weather permitting.
This phase will involve the removal of the existing asphalt surface using a cold milling process and then placing the intermediate hot-mix
asphalt course. After preparation, a new hot-mix asphalt surface will be placed. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
The project area includes county Road 43 from the Lovers Lane connector to Powells Lane
The city has contracted with Shelly and Sands Inc. of Rayland for this project, which is being funded using revenue from the 0.7 percent city income tax and money from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
The anticipated completion date is Sept. 26.

County road work schedule set
STEUBENVILLE — Next week’s work schedule for the Jefferson County Highway Department includes:
• Chip and seal: County Roads 26 (Fernwood-Bloomingdale Road) and 25 (Smithfield Station-Weems Road)
• Spot paving: County Roads 74 (Mingo Junction-Goulds Road) and 8 (Dry Fork Road)
• Bridge replacement: County Road 11 (Piney Fork Road), Knox Township Road 289 and Springfield Township Road 472 (Ridgewood)
• Contract tree trimming: County Road 53 (Bergholz-New Somerset Road)
Paving to close roads in Newell
NEWELL — Fourth Street and Grant Street in Newell will experience temporary closures next week for paving, according to the West Virginia Division of Highways.
Closures will be scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, Tuesday through Sept. 5. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. Inclement weather or other circumstances could change the project schedule.
