WEIRTON — Walkers, runners and more will be stepping up to the start line Friday as part of the 29th-annual Marland Heights 5K Classic, Run, Fitness Walk and Youth Fun Run.

Organized by the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation, the event will include a 3.1-mile run, two-mile fitness walk, and a youth fun run for children 12 years and under, with all races beginning and ending at Marland Heights Park.

The Youth Fun Run will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the 5K and fitness walk to follow at 7 p.m. The festivities will conclude with a cookout and award ceremony

Pre-Registration cost is $25 for adults, $15 for teenagers, and $3 for the Youth Fun Run.

Pre-registration will take place at the Weirton Millsop Community Center until noon Thursday.

Race day registration fee will be $30 for adults and $20 for teenagers.

Timing, once again, will be provided by GCXC Race Timing out of Canfield, Ohio.

“We’ve had nothing but compliments about them,” Parks Programs Director Chris Krishak said.
