‘Haunted Halloween’ returns to Freeland Farm in Brooke County

FRIGHTENING FIELDS — Freeland Farm, located outside Wellsburg, brings back its “Haunted Halloween.” -- Derek Redd

WELLSBURG — Freeland Farm is once again inviting fans of the spooky and the creepy to take a stroll around the property for a “Haunted Halloween.”

Farm owner Eric Freeland said the public is invited at $20 a car to the property at 2470 Windy Hill Road near Wellsburg from 1-5 p.m., Oct. 11-12 and Oct. 18-19.

Dry weather last year kept the event on the bench, but Freeland said he’s ready to welcome guests once again.

“You know the kids, I mean, all the people really, really enjoy it,” Freeland said. “They’re very complimentary.

“People always say, ‘Oh, it’s great to be able to come and see this without having to drive clear to Pittsburgh or halfway to Columbus,'” he added. “The people seem to be pretty happy that there’s something like this close to Wheeling.”

Kids activities like corn bins and others will be ready to go, Freeland said. There also will be a zombie section for guests to roam. There also will be a section with witches and another with scarecrows, ghosts and goblins.

For those not into scary sights, Freeland said it’s an opportunity to tour the farm. There will be food vendors available, as well as a strawberry field for picking. Guests can also walk through sunflower and corn fields, and children 8 and younger will receive a free pumpkin.

“It’s usually a pretty good time,” Freeland said. “People enjoy coming out to the beauty of the farm, getting some snacks and seeing all of the scary stuff.”
