Hearing gets continued in Chester assault case

NEW CUMBERLAND — A 63-year-old Chester man didn’t have his day in court Thursday morning, as his appearance was continued until mid-October.

Louis P. Gallo currently remains out on bond as he awaits his next scheduled court hearing at 9:40 a.m. Oct. 16 before Hancock County Magistrate Matthew Harvey.

This is the second time the hearing has been rescheduled.

According to the online case docket, Gallo retained defense attorney Alex Risovich on Sept. 12.

Gallo had been arrested on July 31 on a felony malicious assault charge after allegedly “pummeling” an unconscious man outside the Chester Veterans of Foreign Wars, allegedly delivering in excess of 20 blows while the man laid on the ground.

The two men had been arguing inside the building before electing to take the dispute outside.

According to witnesses and surveillance video, Gallo then re-entered the establishment where he told an employee, “Your buddy is outside bleeding on the sidewalk” before exiting and allegedly kicking the unresponsive man once more in the head.

If convicted, Gallo faces up to 10 years in prison and a substantial fine.
