Traffic closures announced for Weirton event
WEIRTON — Weirton’s annual Christmas on Main Street celebration will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, with vendors, games and more, culminating with the lighting of the community Christmas tree in front of the Millsop Community Center.
To accommodate the festivities, a series of road closures and traffic detours will be established from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
North- and south-bound lanes of Main Street will be closed between Cove Road and Marland Heights Road.
Traffic will be detoured through the following routes:
• Vehicles traveling south on Main Street will be detoured onto Cove Road to U.S. Route 22 westbound, with the option to then take the Main Street exit into Weirton if needed;
• Vehicles traveling west on Cove Road and wishing to travel south on Main Street, will be directed north on Main Street to Lee Avenue, then to West Street, where they will travel south to the Marland Heights Road intersection, turning east onto Marland Heights Road, and then onto Main Street;
• Vehicles traveling north will be detoured onto Marland Heights Road to West Street, where they will travel north to Lee Avenue, and then directed back onto Main Street.
• Signage will be posted along U.S. Route 22 to alert traffic, including tractor-trailers, of the closures, with encouragement to use alternate routes.
