WEIRTON — After various struggles in recent years, the Community Bread Basket has found a new home on Main Street.

With assistance from Bill and Nena Beynon, Weirton natives currently living in Naples, Fla., the charitable organization will be relocating from its current location on Pennsylvania Avenue to its new offices at 3265 Main St.

The Beynons purchased the former WesBanco Bank branch office and have gifted the nearly 7,000-square-foot building to the organization, where it will offer its services, including a community-based food pantry, clothes closet and other programs to support families in need.

“We are incredibly grateful for this extraordinary act of generosity from Bill and Nena,” said Marilyn E. Charnie, president of the Community Bread Basket’s board of directors. “Their gift ensures long-term stability for our organization and gives us the space we need to continue growing our resources and services and supporting our neighbors.”

Officials note the new location will allow more room for improved food storage, enhanced distribution capabilities, growth for volunteer operations and opportunities to expand the organization’s programs.

“We have always felt a strong bond with West Virginia, especially Weirton,” said Bill Beynon. “The Community Bread Basket plays a vital role in assisting local families, and we are honored to provide a permanent home where the organization can continue expanding its community impact for years to come.”

In October, the Beynons contributed $100,000 in support of the organization’s food pantry programs, with half of it going toward the preparation and distribution of holiday food baskets.

The transition to the new building will take place in the coming months.
