Steubenville trustees to meet

OSHP urges drivers to be safe
COLUMBUS — As Ohioans ring in the new year, troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be highly visible and enforcing safe driving across the state.
“Welcoming in the new year should never end in tragedy,” said Gov. Mike DeWine. “If you’re celebrating, please take personal responsibility and plan ahead by designating a sober driver.”
The New Year’s holiday reporting period runs from today through Sunday, and during this timeframe, anyone traveling on Ohio’s roads is urged to drive responsibly, designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service.
To combat preventable tragedies, the OSHP will be increasing patrols throughout the holiday reporting period. Troopers will be focusing on removing impaired and distracted drivers from the roads, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy on dangerous driving.
“Making sure everyone gets home safely is a shared responsibility,” said Col. Charles A. Jones, patrol superintendent. “The cost of an impaired driving conviction is minor compared to the lifelong burden of unnecessarily taking a life.”
Weirton offices to close for holiday
WEIRTON — City of Weirton administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the New Year holiday.
Weirton Ride offices will be closed both days, with no routes available Thursday, and the Saturday routes operated on Friday.
Public Works offices also will be closed, with the collection of Thursday’s garbage and recyclables done on Friday, and Friday’s collection on Saturday.
State workers get extended holiday
CHARLESTON — Governor Patrick Morrisey issued a proclamation granting West Virginia state employees the full day off Friday. State employees automatically receive a half-day off under West Virginia State Rules on New Year’s Eve, and a full day off on New Year’s Day, according to West Virginia Code.
The order grants this time off without charge against accrued annual leave. This action applies only to employees of the State of West Virginia and does not affect private businesses, local governments, or other entities.
