Man killed in logging accident

IRONDALE — A 38-year-old Amish man from West Farmington, Ohio, was killed as the result of a logging accident Thursday morning, according to Clark Crago, director of the TEMS Joint Ambulance District.

Crago said firefighters from Irondale and TEMS crews used an off-road vehicle to extricate the man, who was struck by a falling tree near Broadway Street.

He said the man was transported to East Liverpool City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

WELLSBURG — Registration for Brooke County Schools’ kindergarten, for children who will be 5 years old as of June 30, will begin Feb. 10 at Hooverson Heights and Wellsburg primary schools.

Appointments should be made by calling Hooverson Heights at (304) 527-0870 or Wellsburg at (304) 737-0133.

Hooverson Heights Primary serves children from Colliers, Weirton and Follansbee, while Wellsburg Primary serves children from Beech Bottom, Bethany and Wellsburg.

Those requesting their child attend a school outside of their residential area should obtain and submit a student transfer request form and return it to the director of elementary education for consideration by the school board.

Parents or guardians should bring a birth certificate issued by the state in which the child was born, the child’s Social Security number and a record of the child’s immunizations.

Parents and guardians of children in the school district’s pre-kindergarten program don’t need to register them for kindergarten.

Brooke pre-kindergarten registration set

WELLSBURG — Pre-registration for Brooke County Schools’ free pre-kindergarten program, which is open to children who will be 4 years old as of June 30, will be held at the school board’s office at 1201 Pleasant Ave. at the following times:

from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 10 and 24 and May 19, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 12 and 26, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 20.

Pre-K packets should be picked up first at any Brooke County School beginning Feb. 1.

Parents or guardians should bring a birth certificate issued by the state in which the child was born, the child’s Social Security number and a record of the child’s immunizations.
