Death of fallen man under investigation
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a man who fell from a railroad bridge in the Cross Creek area Tuesday night.
Brooke County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Douglas Mills confirmed William Fetty, 38, of Weirton, was found on Cross Creek Road near Sanders Hill Road at about 8:30 p.m. after the sheriff’s department received a report from a passerby that he had fallen from the railroad bridge at a distance of approximately 30 to 40 feet.
Mills said Fetty was transported by the Brooke County Ambulance Service to Weirton Medical Center and from there, flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
He said the sheriff’s department had been searching for Fetty following a request for assistance by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department at about 8 p.m.
The Hancock County department had been looking for him following a report by family members he had taken items, including a computer tablet and were attempting to use the tablet to track him, said Mills.
