Foul play not suspected in fatal fall
WELLSBURG — Brooke County Sheriff Rich Beatty said foul play isn’t suspected in the death of a Weirton man who fell from a railroad bridge Tuesday night.
The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a man, later identified as 38-year-old William Fetty of Weirton, being found by a passerby laying on Cross Creek Road after having fallen 30 feet to 40 feet from the bridge above.
The sheriff’s department reported earlier they had been called to assist the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department in finding Fetty.
Brooke County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Douglas Mills said family members of Fetty had reported he taken some items, including a laptop computer the family members were attempting to use to track him.
Mills said Fetty was transported to WVU Medicine — Weirton Medical Center and from there to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
