Smoke in the air
Heavy smoke filled the air over the northern parts of Weirton Saturday afternoon as a result of a fire in the former tin-plating facility. According to officials, the fire started as a result of outside contractors dismantling equipment and other materials inside the facility, with sparks from their operation catching a plastic tank on fire. A tanker task force, comprised of departments from throughout Hancock and Brooke counties, as well as Steubenville and Hanover Township, was called in to assist as there is no water service in the area of the plant. — Craig Howell
