Business Bootcamp to focus on financing options

WEIRTON — Local business owners, or those who might be looking to start a venture of their own, will have an opportunity to learn more about financing options available to support their efforts.

The next session of the Business Bootcamp educational series, organized by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with First Microloan of West Virginia, the City of Weirton, and the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle, is scheduled for Feb. 19, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center.

There is a $10 fee to attend, which covers the cost of food, and registration is required by calling the Chamber at (304) 748-7212.

This month’s topic is “Show Me The Money: Alternative Financing Options,” presented by Tim James of First Microloan of West Virginia.

Through the presentation, James will discuss aspects of what lenders are looking for when deciding whether to provide funding for a business, as well as alternative financing options such as microloans.

First Microloan of West Virginia offers financial support opportunities through the Small Business Administration’s Microloan Program in an effort to encourage job creation for the region. The organization also provides technical assistance programs for its borrowers.

Microloans are available in amounts from $5,000 to $50,000, and must be repaid as with any other loan.

Future seminars in the Business Bootcamp series include:

March 19: “It’s Tax Time: Understanding Your Financial Statement,” also presented by James.

April 16: “Growing Your Business: Workforce Development,” presented by Erin Kittle of the Northern Panhandle Workforce Development and Jennifer Rohrig of West Virginia Economic Development.

May 21: “Handbooks, Employee Files and More: HR Compliance,” presented by Amy Grant of WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center.
