Toronto school board to meet

TORONTO — The Toronto City Board of Education will meet in regular session at 5 p.m. today.

The meeting will be held in the library at Toronto Junior-Senior High School.

Hancock Commission sets workshops

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Commission has scheduled a pair of work sessions to be held Friday morning at the Hancock County Courthouse.

The first will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with a general discussion on the county’s parks and recreation system, followed by a second workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the county’s budget.

Hancock Sheriff investigating burglary

CHESTER — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after the Subway sandwich shop on U.S. Route 30 was reportedly burglarized.

Officials report an individual broke the glass on the door at approximately 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, before entering the business and going to the cash registers and safe. The individual is believed to have traveled on foot from the east, and was in the business for a short period of time before leaving and walking along Route 30 toward Pennsylvania.

If anyone has information on the incident, they are asked to call (304) 564-3311, extension 373.

Weirton Pizza Hut closed

WEIRTON — The Weirton Pizza Hut restaurant, which had been located at 218 Park Drive, Suite G, has closed.

A sign posted on the business’ door Wednesday morning announced the closure, reading “To our valued customers, this location has been permanently closed. Thank you.”

According to numerous published news reports, Yum! Brands, the parent company of Pizza Hut, is closing 250 underperforming Pizza Hut locations across the country as part of a strategic review of the company.

Tiltonsville man faces threat charge

FOLLANSBEE — A Tiltonsville man has been charged with making terroristic threats after allegedly threatening people in a local restaurant because he was unable to access the internet there.

According to a criminal complaint filed against Brandon L. McKim, 40, of 303 Main St., employees at the restaurant told Brooke County sheriff’s deputies he entered the business on Sunday shouting that its WiFi access wasn’t working and that he would shoot everyone if they didn’t address it.

The complaint states McKim was told to leave and did so but returned later to make the same threat.

Sheriff’s deputies said McKim told them he was trying to contact a family member who was in trouble.

A search of McKim’s vehicle didn’t produce a weapon.

His case is pending in Brooke County Magistrate Court.

Wellsburg Council’s voting meeting moved

WELLSBURG — Wellsburg Council’s next voting meeting has been moved to 6 p.m. Tuesday, the usual date of its committees meeting, at City Hall.

Follansbee Council to discuss budget

FOLLANSBEE — Follansbee Council will hold a workshop meeting to discuss the city’s next budget at 5 p.m. Feb. 26 at the City Building.
