International Senior Club meets
WEIRTON — The International Senior Club met on March 10 at Undo’s in Weirton.
Carl Truax led the prayer and blessing. Larry Purks led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by members singing “God Bless America.” A buffet dinner and desserts were enjoyed by the members.
Liz Beecroft introduced guests Marlene Creaz, Joyce Destefanco and Jack Billham. No formal meeting was held due to guest speaker, J Luthra, who spoke about the 13th-annual Festival of Nations. He gave a brief history stating that it first began in 1939 in Weirton because of Weirton Steel and the many immigrants coming here to work in the mill. The current festival will have a variety of things to see and do. Ethnic food, music, dance and vendors will be featured. It will be held from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Weirton Millsop Community Center. Admission and parking is free. Bus service will be available from some lots. This festival has been held in conjunction with Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center since 2009.
Happy Birthday was sung to the March members Larry Purks, Norma Henson and JoAnn Magnone. Happy anniversary was sung to Nancy and Terry Ramsey for 53 years. Liz Beecroft and Rena Kondhe gave the jokes of the day.
The following bus tours were announced and include May 10, “Hair Spray,” Lincoln Park Performing Arts, Midland, Pa.; May 18-23, Chattanooga Choo Choo Train Rides and Riverboat Cruise, Chattanooga, Tenn; June 13, Sugarcreek; July 17, Hartsville Marketplace and Flee Market, Hartsville; July 21, Meadows Casino, Washington, Pa.; June 28, “Legally Blonde,” Lincoln Park Performing Arts, Midland; Aug. 19-21, “Joshua,” Sights and Sound Theater, Lancaster, Pa.; Sept. 23-25, Seneca Resorts and Casino, Niagara Falls, N,Y,; and Oct.4-10, Branson Show Extravaganza (six shows and 10 meals.) The 50/50 was won by Richard Mergen. The Undo’s gift certificates were won by Tom Beecroft and Ruth Masters. Door prizes were won by Regina Truax and Nancy Ramsey. The Easter wreath made by Truax was won by Debbie Bonuito. Bingo winners were Cheryl Thompson, Larry Purks, Dolores Ginier, Nancy Lellie, and Gabriel Arlia.

Three Score Seniors hear officer
WEIRTON — President Frank Bohach called the February meeting of the Three Score Seniors to order by asking Winnie Kemp to say a prayer. That was Followed by Pledge of Allegiance and group singing God Bless America.
Following a sit-down dinner, Bohach introduced a 10-year veteran of Weirton police force, Officer Adam Mortimer, who spoke about how to protect ourselves as the older members from being scrammed. There was a discussion from several of the members about their exposure to that problem. Also, the crime rate in Weirton was considered.
Brenda Edwards, membership chair, reported 39 paid members with 25 in attendance.
Reservation Chair Mary Bohach gave the March menu.
Sunshine Chair, Winnie Kemp, sent get well cards to Mary Louise Danek, Mike Runkel Sandra Briggs, Jack Cassella and JoAnn Kerr. Also read were thank you notes to the club for cards sent by JoAnn Kerr and Marlene Runkel.
A birthday was celebrated for Delores Ginier.
Prizes were won by Ed Powell, Marlene Hare, Regina Truax, Winnie Kemp, Dolores Ginier and Nancy Smurda.
The club’s March 26 meeting will be again at 3 p.m. To join, call any member.
