Drawing to benefit beautification

WINTERSVILLE — The Wintersville Beautification Committee is holding a fundraising drawing, with the winning tickets to be pulled at Wintersville Council’s next meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday the Municipal Building.

The tickets are $20 each, with no more than 400 to be sold, and three winners receiving $1,500, $1,000 and $500.

They may be purchased from any member of the group, which is headed by Councilwoman Gael Damron, or through the group’s Facebook page or e-mail at wintersvillebeautification@gmail.com.

Bulk pickups announced for village

WINTERSVILLE — Village officials have announced dates for its annual bulk trash pickups for its residential garbage customers.

Bulk trash will be collected on June 1 for those with Tuesday garbage collection, June 8 for those with Wednesday garbage collection, June 15 for those with Thursday garbage collection and June 22 for those with Friday garbage collection.

The following items won’t be accepted: Tires, computers, televisions and other electronics; household batteries, food waste and other normal household waste, leaves or grass clippings, construction materials, demolition debris, mattresses or box springs, paint, liquids, hazardous waste, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators or other items containing freon.

Library board to meet

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library board will hold its next regular meeting at 1 p.m. Monday.

Libraries to close early

The Brooke County Public Library in Wellsburg and Follansbee Public Library will be open from 9 a.m. to noon only on April 3 but will have regular hours on April 4.

The libraries are always closed on Sundays.

Evening story hour set

WELLSBURG — Kim Harless will lead an evening story hour at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Brooke County Public Library.

Story hour to include Easter Bunny

WELLSBURG — The Easter Bunny will appear for a story hour to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Brooke County Public Library.

The free event will include a story, craft and songs. Space is limited, so reservations should be made by calling (304) 737-1551 or visiting https://brookecountylibs.org/events.

Senior fitness classes offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library is offering Geri-Fit, a 45-minute strength training class for older adults.

Participants start lifting light weights, usually while seated and can work at their own pace. They should bring a set of light dumbbells, a stretch band and water to drink.

The video fitness classes are held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Follansbee Library, 844 Main St., and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Brooke County Library, 945 Main St. Those interested in participating in the free classes should register by calling (304) 737-1551 ext. 106.

Tai chi classes offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library offers free tai chi classes, led by Mike Turrentine, at 11 a.m. each Monday in the River Room.

Tai chi involves meditation and gentle exercise, and participants should wear comfortable clothes.

Dungeons & Dragons classes offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will be holding Dungeons & Dragons classes for middle and high school students from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Tuesday.

The classes will be taught by Daniel Melching and David Nixon, who will bring everything needed for a game.

Registration isn’t required, but those with questions may e-mail melching745@yahoo.com.

UMWA to meet

CADIZ — UMWA Local 1304 will hold its regular meeting April 4 at the Hopedale American Legion, 48225 Rabbit Road.

Breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m., with the meeting to follow at 10 a.m.
