STEUBENVILLE – Steubenville High School senior Vítória Rabelo Da Silva Yendo’s artistic design will be getting noticed far and wide with its inclusion in an educational and art supply catalog.
Rabelo Da Silva Yendo, the daughter of Julio Cesar Yendo and Sheila Regina Rabela Da Silva Yendo of Steubenville, will have her colorful rendering featured within the pages of the Kurtz Bros. 2026-2027 catalog after entering it in a contest earlier this year.
Kurtz Bros., which is based in Clearfield., Pa., is recognized as a retail office equipment and school supply dealer and has provided classroom and art supplies to instructional materials and furniture for PreK-12 schools over the past 130 years. The company’s primary territory spans from Massachusetts and Upstate New York through Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee; however, it has also been awarded vendor contracts and cooperative purchasing programs nationwide. Officials conducted its inaugural design contest and Rabelo Da Silva Yendo’s artwork was among several entries selected for the upcoming publication.
SHS art teacher Emily Miller said the company was seeking submissions and her pupil fared very well as a result, earning a pizza party for the art club and $250 gift certificate for supplies for the classroom. Company representative Renee Stover appeared with the rewards for the club’s celebration, as well a copy of the drawing.
“Renee said said the picture will be featured within the catalog,” Miller commented, noting her pride. “She said this was the first year they have done the contest and they received a total of 62 entries.”
Rabelo Da Silva Yendo was equally enthused with the outcome.
“I did a sketchbook assignment in October and it was due in January,” Rabelo Da Silva Yendo said. “I was so excited because I didn’t think I’d win.”
The Sao Paolo, Brazil, native has been interested in art for the vast part of her life.
“Since I was little, I’ve always loved to do mostly drawings, but now I am doing more sculptures,” she added. “I’m always doing pencil drawings and I mostly like drawing people. My parents are knew I really liked this and I have taken classes.”
She has also taken part in local events since she and her family arrived from South America last year, and among the venues were the Jefferson County Drug Task Force billboard campaign last summer and, most recently, the Steubenville Art Association’s “Show Us Your Stuff” contest in February. At the latter, she received the People’s Choice award and her rendering was displayed at Historic Fort Steuben.
“I’m starting to participate in more now. There was not a lot of art in school in Brazil and I have more opportunities here,” she continued.
When not crafting new pieces, she maintains a 4.71 GPA and participates in Pep Club and the varsity swim team. She has designs on creations of a larger scale upon graduation with plans to study communication arts at Franciscan University and eventual hopes of becoming an architect.
