Sunrise Seniors welcome committee members

TORONTO — The March 27 meeting of Toronto Sunrise Seniors was called to order by President Barbara Pritts who welcomed guests from the Toronto Beautification Committee.

Following dinner, Cathie Thomas, Lauren White, and Tammi Middleton were introduced by Social Secretary Mary Anne Landerfield. The ladies spoke to the group about the goals and efforts of the TBC. President Thomas explained that the group is composed of a variety of individuals who have the common goal of improving the beauty of Toronto. Twelve different sites around the community are under the care of individuals who plant flowers and continually groom the area.

According to Middleton, the TBC meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday evening each month at the Toronto City Building. The group discusses any plans and or concerns in maintaining each site. White explained that the group has an annual geranium sale to raise funds for the work. She said that the group is composed of old and young individuals who have a love for Toronto. She specifically mentioned the area at the War Memorial and Gazebo as examples. She said that the group is always looking for more individuals to help with the job and suggested ways that the Sunrise Seniors could become involved. Pritts thanked the group for their efforts and presented each with a token of appreciation.

Pritts also thanked the kitchen committee and stated that the April kitchen committee will be made up of Gloria Boley, Jerry Cornish, Lucy Timko and Carol Rogers. Secretary Karen Martin read the minutes of the previous meeting and conducted the roll call of officers. Treasurer Lynn Miller gave the financial report which was filed for audit. Sandi Radvansky shared information about the trip to see “Legally Blond” on June 28 at the Lincoln School of Performing Arts in Midland, Pa. The $65 member price and $75 non-member price covers transportation, tickets, tips and a meal at Olive Garden. Contact Radvansky at (740) 317-9088 for information.

Joe Radvansky was recognized as member of the month. Winners of the 50-50 drawing were Mary Murphy and Betty Mossor. Following announcements, the meeting was adjourned and members then enjoyed playing bingo. Winners for the evening included Maryellen Marion, Patti Losey, Jackie Collins, Marsha McConnell Mary Anne Cordier, Timko, Laura Sheets, Hank Sheets, Donna Farmer, Bea Lytle and Pritts.

The next meeting will be held on at 5 p.m. April 10 at the Karaffa Recreation Center. Any Ohio resident 55 or older is welcome to attend.
