Weirton man facing several charges after police pursuit

Coletin Adamson

WEIRTON — A Weirton man is in custody at the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail following a multi-agency police pursuit late Thursday that reached speeds of about 100 mph and ended with a crash and foot chase, according to police.

Coletin Blaze Adamson, 20, faces a felony charge of fleeing with reckless indifference and several misdemeanor charges, including fleeing from police on foot, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, obstructing an officer or resisting arrest, driving without a license and improper registration.

According to Police Chief Charlie Kush, Weirton Police were contacted by Wintersville Police at approximately 11:46 p.m. Thursday and advised they were pursuing a black Ford SUV driven by Adamson.

The vehicle reportedly crossed the Veterans Memorial Bridge at about 100 mph and continued into West Virginia on U.S. 22. Weirton Police said the SUV exited onto Three Springs Drive, with the pursuit continuing onto Culler Road and into the Kings Creek area.

A Hancock County sheriff’s deputy deployed a spike strip, deflating a front tire on the vehicle.

Police said Adamson continued to flee until attempting to turn onto Country Club Boulevard, where he lost control, struck a parked car and a telephone pole and left the roadway.

According to the report, Adamson then fled on foot, running through Kings Creek toward Falcon Drive, where officers noted his grandmother lives.

Officers later found Adamson hiding in a closet at the residence. He reportedly refused commands, and a K-9 unit was deployed before he was taken into custody.

According to Hancock County Magistrate Court records, Adamson is being held on a $15,000 cash bond on the felony charge and a $6,900 cash bond on the misdemeanor charges.

No preliminary hearing has been scheduled and no defense attorney has been assigned.
