Brooke County to seek new sheriff’s department vehicles

Craig Howell SEEKING BIDS – Brooke County Commissioners Christina White, left, and Stacey Wise, during Tuesday's meeting, approved a request to seek bids for the purchase of two new vehicles for the Brooke County Sheriff's Department.

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Sheriff’s Department will continue its annual fleet update after county commissioners approved a request Tuesday to seek bids for two new vehicles.

Commissioners authorized the sheriff’s department to advertise for the purchase and upfitting of the vehicles. The advertisement will be published Friday, with bids due by 10 a.m. June 16.

“We have been on a rotation the last few years,” Commissioner Stacey Wise said, noting the county replaces two vehicles each fiscal year to help reduce mileage and maintenance costs.

Capt. Kyler Ferguson of the sheriff’s department said he plans to contact dealerships the county has worked with previously as part of the bidding process.

“I’ll email them bid spec sheets,” Ferguson said, adding it will be up to the dealerships whether to submit offers.

Wise noted the proposal called for trading in one vehicle while purchasing two.

Ferguson said the sheriff’s department has discussed with Wellsburg Police Chief Mike Allman the possibility of the city obtaining one of the vehicles.

“Wellsburg PD is in need of a K-9 cruiser,” he said.

Ferguson said one of the vehicles the department is seeking to replace is a 2016 model, while the other is a 2018 model.
