Jefferson County voters approve local property taxes

STEUBENVILLE -- Voters in communities throughout Jefferson County approved the renewal of several property taxes that help fund important services when they went to the polls Tuesday.

In Amsterdam, residents voted 30-15 in favor of renewing a 3-mill, five-year levy that will be used for recreation expenses.

Rayland voters approved a 4-mill, five-year levy to cover current expenses, 36-28.

In Richmond, residents voted 57-32 to renew a 1-mill, five-year levy to help with current expenses.

Tiltonsville voters approved two renewals: A 4.9-mill, five-year levy for police protection passed 138-86, while a 3-mill, five-year levy for current expenses passed 147-75

And, residents in the southern parts of the county helped to approve a 2.5-mill, three-year levy that will generate money that can be used for all purposes other than bond debt charges, 265-111.

All results are unofficial until the election is certified, officials with the Jefferson County Board of Elections said.
