STEUBENVILLE — Authorities have released the name of the man who was killed in Sunday’s officer-involved shooting in the 900 block of Brady Avenue.
Matthew Metzger, 36, of Wintersville was identified as the person killed in the incident that happened after he allegedly brandished a gun, refused to comply with law enforcement and was shot, Police Chief Ken Anderson said Tuesday afternoon.
According to the initial press release, officers responded to a call about 5 p.m. Sunday regarding a person with a firearm in that area of the city.
When they arrived, the statement said, officers encountered the man, who ignored their commands, resulting in the shooting.
Officers performed life-saving measures, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured during the incident, Anderson said. Per department policy, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, he added.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation, Anderson said.
A spokesman said Tuesday that BCI responded to the incident after a request from the Steubenville Police Department. The investigation is active and ongoing, he added.
