Two Hospitalized Following I-470 Crash That Snarled Traffic For Hours

Two people reportedly were hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash that completely blocked traffic on Interstate 470 West in Ohio for more than an hour and slowed traffic for several hours.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol could not be reached for comment as of Tuesday evening, but the Ohio Department of Transportation said that, around 8 a.m., a crash closed all lanes of I-470 West just past the Veterans Memorial Bridge. According to multiple published reports, two semi trucks and a pickup truck were involved.

Two people from the crash were taken to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, and one lane of traffic was able to be opened shortly before 10 a.m. Until then, traffic began to back up on I-470 across the Veterans Memorial Bridge and into West Virginia near the Bethlehem exit.

All lanes were open shortly before 2 p.m. The Wheeling Police Department assisted by blocking off the on-ramp to the Veterans Memorial Bridge in South Wheeling until lanes were reopened.
