Weirton Hall of Fame Class of 2026 announced

WEIRTON – A new class of honorees is set to join the roster of the Weirton Hall of Fame.

“The Hall of Fame Committee has chosen the honorees for the Class of 2026,” Weirton Assistant City Manager DeeAnn Pulliam announced during the May 11 meeting of Weirton Council.

The class of inductees was officially unveiled through the city’s social media Thursday afternoon.

Set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame later this year are:

— John Charles Greco, in the category of public service.

— Gus Charles “Chuck” Svokas, in the category of public service.

— John J. Bernabei, in the category of business, industry and professions.

— Irene Markich Mindzak, in the category of business, industry and professions.

— Richard “Rick” Rine, in the category of education and religion.

— Melvin Lawrence Coleman Sr., in the category of sports and athletics.

— Mandy Carnes-Ellison, in the category of sports and athletics.

Details on the induction ceremony will be announced at a later date.

The Weirton Hall of Fame was established through action by Weirton Council in 2008 as a way to honor the contributions of its residents, both past and present.

Nominations can be made in one of six categories: philanthropy; public service; music and fine arts; business, industry and professions; education and religion; and sports and athletics.

To qualify, a nominee must be either a current or former resident of Weirton, having lived in the city for a minimum of five years since Weirton’s incorporation in 1947.
