WELLSBURG – Brooke commissioners opened bids Tuesday for the purchase of new X-ray machines and cardiac monitors, but are holding off on a formal approval of the purchases pending review of the proposals.
“We received two for each,” County Clerk Kim Barbetta noted.
One bid was received on the X-ray system, for use in the courthouse, from Point Security Inc., located in North Carolina, for a total cost of $61,039.36.
The county also received a bid from Autoclear Security Inspection Systems, based in New Jersey.
Commissioner Tommy Diserio, though, explained they needed some clarification on the Autoclear bid.
“There is one page with about 15 different costs and not a total,” Diserio said.
He noted the bid included prices of $16,200 for each machine, as well as a $500-per-machine shipping cost, but also a freight cost of $1,700, among its proposals.
Sheriff Rich Beatty said a review of the bids will be conducted by Capt. Scott Zeigler, who was not available Tuesday.
“He’ll get back to you later this week,” Beatty said, noting the review will be available for the commission to consider the bids at next week’s meeting.
Commissioners also opened bids for the purchase of five cardiac monitors, for use by Brooke County Emergency Medical Services.
Bids were received from Stryker at a total cost of $272,270.23, and from Zoll Medical Corp. for $286,747.09.
Greg Moore, county Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management director, explained the plan is to make the purchase with a portion of the county’s opioid settlement funds, if they are awarded to the EMS/EMT agency.
“This is through the opioid funding,” Moore said, noting they had requested the bids in an effort to lock in the prices.
In other business Tuesday, commissioners agreed to advertise for vacant positions on both the Brooke Hills Park Board and the Washington Pike Public Service District Board for the next two weeks, with those interested asked to submit a letter of interest to the County Clerk’s Office.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office was requested to draft policies and related documentation for the county’s humane officer, dog warden and animal shelter.
Commissioners also approved the hiring of Garrett Cook for the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department, and Josie McFarland for 911 Dispatch, both with a start date of July 1, and the purchase of two vehicles for the Sheriff’s Department at a cost of $46,553 each.
