Top of WV Arts Council to celebrate America with new exhibit
WEIRTON – The Top of West Virginia Arts Council is celebrating the nation, its history and culture through an upcoming exhibit, set to go on display at the Summit Art Gallery this week.
“America and Art – Celebrating Our 250th Founding Through Art,” will go on display, beginning with an opening reception at 5 p.m., Thursday.
The exhibit features the works of local artists honoring the United States’ semiquincentennial, featuring original 2D and 3D art, as well as photographs.
Entries in the exhibit will be judged by Zane Miller of West Liberty University, who will present awards for first, second, and third place, as well as two honorable mentions, during Thursday’s reception.
Miller, of Wheeling, is an interdisciplinary artist who creates works using photography, painting and installation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in art and technology from Allegheny College, and a master’s from Columbus College of Art and Design. His work has been shown in the Beeler Gallery, the Columbus Museum of Art and the Fed Galleries, among others.
The exhibit will be on display at the Summit Art Gallery through July 6.
The gallery is located within the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau offices at 243 Three Springs Drive, Suite 17, Weirton, and is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday hours.
