Weirton water officials making adjustments to address taste and odor issues

WEIRTON – The Weirton Area Water Board and its staff are taking preventative measures as a result of taste and odor issues detected in the water system.

According to information released by the Weirton Area Water Board, other utilities along the Ohio River are experiencing similar issues of customers detecting an earthy taste or odor to their water, potentially a result of algae growth in the river.

In Weirton, treatment adjustments have been made, as well as increasing the amount of well water supply and decreasing the river water supply at the water treatment plant. Additional adjustments will be made, as needed, officials report.
