Weirton police issues warrant in murder case

WEIRTON - Weirton police have issued a warrant as part of the investigation into an alleged murder in the city’s downtown Tuesday.

Weirton Police Chief Charlie Kush, in a statement issued Wednesday morning, announced a warrant had been issued for David Barger, 69, following the death of his wife, Donna Barger.

Weirton officers responded to 3931 Grant St. at approximately 2:24 p.m. Tuesday, after receiving a request for a welfare check at the property.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Donna Barger, 70, inside the home. David Barger also was inside the home, Kush reported, having a medical emergency.

He was treated by medical personnel on the scene before being flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Information on his condition was not available.

Kush said an arrest warrant has been issued for David Barger, to include charges of first-degree murder in relation to the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, with no additional details available.

Weirton Police were assisted by the West Virginia State Police, Weirton Fire Department, Hancock County Ambulance Service, and the Brooke County Prosecutors Office.
