Area residents, and visitors alike, gathered around the World's Largest Teapot in Chester Saturday, for live music, food, vendors, and more, all organized to celebrate the local roadside landmark. William Devon built the Teapot in 1938 from a large wooden hogshead Hires’ Root Beer barrel he purchased in Pennsylvania. After bringing it to Chester, he used it as a concession stand selling food and souvenirs near his pottery store on Carolina Avenue. After going through several changes in ownership, it was moved to its current location near the junction of Route 30 and Route 2 in the early 1990s. Proceeds from the event are put toward the Teapot's upkeep.
