James waives preliminary hearing

WELLSBURG - The former principal of Brooke High School, accused of hiding cameras in the school’s girls’ locker room areas, is heading to circuit court.
Eric James, 53, through his defense attorney DeMarr W. Moulton, waived his preliminary hearing Monday morning while appearing before visiting Hancock County Magistrate Matt Harvey. James was scheduled for his preliminary in Brooke County Magistrate Court on four felony charges related to the alleged placement of cameras at the school.
In addition, following motions from Moulton, Harvey modified James’ bond to a cash/professional surety, while keeping the amount at a combined $200,000, while establishing new terms in the event James does post bond.
Under those circumstances, James will be on home confinement, at a location to be approved by the court, and under GPS monitoring. He also will not be permitted on or near any Brooke County Schools properties or to attend any events with participation by Brooke County Schools, and he will not be permitted any contact with any children.
By waiving the preliminary hearing, James is expected to be part of the next Brooke County grand jury cycle, scheduled for early November.
